335 and counting.

I am down to 265.  I feel great.  Only 23 pounds from my original goal.  6 pounds away from my April 1st goal.   If I stay at my current rate that will not be an issue.  I know weight isn’t as important as overall health but with all of the exercising I have been doing it should continue to drop.  I do feel much healthier, my waist size is going down, my run times are going down and it even seems my appetite has gone down a little (of course after saying that I am sure I will be starving all day).

I ran 2 miles in 19:09.5 last week.  I haven’t pushed the 5K.  I am running a 5K this Saturday here in Pensacola.    This one you guess your time and the 5 closest people win a prize.  I guessed 35:00.  I think I could push and do it a little faster but I also have never run with a pack before.  We will see how it goes.

The Paleo Diet is going great.  I so miss being able to eat chicken wings and hot sauce but I love eating fruit and endless veggies.   I do feel like my energy is a little better but real test will come when I start really pushing hard for triathlon training.    As long as I don’t eat out I have no issues sticking to the diet.  It isn’t just cheaper to eat at home its healthier.

On February 1st I started P90X.  I have really been enjoying it.  I’m on week 6 and haven’t missed a workout except for yoga (not enough space in my room and the dogs want to help if I do it in the living room).  I’ve been doing the plyometrics DVD 2 or 3 times a week.  I am hoping it will help with the running and cycling.    I don’t think I have gotten any strong but I have definitely have built up more stamina and flexibility (can’t wait to get back to Mass and do Yoga regularly).    The program is NOT for beginners, if I had tried this even a year ago I probably would have failed miserably.  Now their are some things I can do perfect, some things I can do ok, and some I have a real hard time with (one handed pushups) but I do think it is worth giving it a try.

I read a lot of other people’s blogs about weight loss and getting healthy.   Lately I have been following Tyler at 344 Pounds.  Tyler was a big man like myself who is not a big man so much anymore.  I admire his hard work and dedication.  His blog made it to CNN.com which is a big feat for a weight loss guy.  If anyone has any recommendations for other weight loss blogs or even health related blogs please comment.  I enjoy reading about other people’s journeys.

Being sick sucks

I got a bad cold last week (thanks dad).  It totally kicked my butt.  I didn’t go to the gym for 3 days.  I hate missing the gym.   I feel like I am gaining weight if I am not going.  I went back Saturday once, twice Sunday and back to my normal schedule today.

This morning I did the P90X plyometrics video.  It hurt but it was a damn good hurt.  I decided I will give all of the videos a go.  I will add in extra cardio as always and even do a few extra of the plyo and kenpo videos.  Lifting wise I will follow their lead though.  I did the first video tonight, Chest and Back.  I have never done that many pushups in my entire life.  I still can’t do normal pullups so I used an Iron Gym and some bands as the video suggest.  I was able to do 1 chin up which is a huge improvement for me.  things are definitely looking up.

I didn’t get my 8 miles running in last week due to the cold.  I’ll have to do extra this week.  Today I only did 2 miles, I did the first mile in 10:14 the second in 11:19.  That’s the fastest I have run 2 miles in my entire life.  If I didn’t have the cold I would have pushed out a 3rd.  We will see what the weekend brings.

Not a lot else going on in my life, work, working out and eating.  I did make a monster Turkey Meatloaf today.  Came out very yummy.  I have started making mashed cauliflower and it tastes just like mashed potatoes.  It’s even better reheated then mashed potatoes is.  I did it last week with a roast and made Shephard’s Pie as well.  Both came out excellent.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to prepare turnips?  I bought some at the walmart but have no idea how to prepare them.  Also I’ll take any suggestions on any other veggies as well, anything but potatoes and corn.  I’m always looking for new ways to cook veggies.

I think I am going to do something called The Warrior Dash(http://www.warriordash.com/).  It looks both insanely fun and just plain insane.  Anyone else want in?

Two months and twenty years

Yes folks it has been two months since I have posted.  Lots to say, lots to say.

Ok back on the diet, went off for a long weekend for New Years.  Had chinese buffet, kfc buffet (love the cole slaw and biscuits and gravy), had some of cousin bobby’s dirty rice, went to new orleans and had some great grub.  I have no idea how much I gained because the day I went back on the diet I decided I wasn’t weighing myself for 3 months.  That way I can never take it easy for those 3 months.  No days off or all you can eat wings (and I love all you can eat wings).

I went to a running store on Saturday and got fitted for a pair of running shoes.  I like my New Balance and all, I just wanted to get fitted and try some shoes designed better for my feet.  I ran today in the new shoes, nothing felt any different.  We’ll see over the next few weeks.  Its been so cold here in Florida I haven’t gotten to ride much.  I hope it warms up  because I want to get 4000 miles in n the bike this year.  Gym is still going well, switched back to Mitch’s routing after close to two months off of it,  need to get my endurance up.

So in the last week or two I have connected with a few old friends on facebook.  Two people I hadn’t talked to in a long time, one in 20 years.  These people both found inner strength in very different ways and at different times, but it truely impressed me.  It is weird how the internet brings us back together and friendships reform.  Don’t worry next post I will complain about people annoying me.

I watched Confessions fo a Reality Star Loser just a little bit ago.  Wow what a weird story.  The guy won Season 3 of the biggest loser by losing over 200+ pounds.  He has gained over 75% of that weight back.   Now he is trying to lose it again on his own.  I say good for him, then I watch as his wife blames the people on the biggest loser and then he blames his mom for cooking good meals.  Hey buddy, I lost 200 plus pounds then gained it all back and then some.  You know the difference between you and I?  I didn’t win 250K  and I didn’t blame anyone.

As always, be well people
